From October 2009 until her retirement in March 2013, Dr. Virginia (Ginny) Coombs served the Council of Independent Colleges as vice president for annual programs. In that position she planned the program and conducted CIC’s annual Institute for Chief Academic Officers and its annual Workshops for Department and Division Chairs. Prior to her assignment at CIC, Ginny served for 16 years as a senior academic affairs officer in independent higher education at Central College, Oklahoma City University, and Keuka College. From 2001-2006 she held the position of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She has extensive experience in program prioritization and development, including the revision of general education programs at each campus she served as a senior administrator. She has also served as a peer evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges; as a consultant evaluator for the Higher Education Commission of the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges and for the Military Installation Voluntary Education Review (MIVER) for the American Council on Education. Ginny has completed two three-year terms as a Counselor in the At-Large Division for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and two terms as chair of the CUR Finance Committee. In 1995 she was appointed to the board of directors of the American Council of Academic Deans and was elected its national chair for three consecutive terms from 2004 to 2007.
